It’s hard to believe, but with all its rich history and international fame, there are still pockets of Napa Valley that are largely unexplored. These are the rugged mountains, hillsides and valleys in the eastern perimeter of the county that have flown under the radar thanks to their remoteness and the challenging terrain. Somerston Vineyards is one of those guarded pockets. This remote, untamed viticultural frontier is eight miles due east of Rutherford midway between Lake Hennessy and Lake Berryessa.
The 250+ acres of vines at Somerston Vineyards are planted between 900 and 2,400 feet above sea level. The elevation helps to moderate temperatures producing a climate that is warmer than Mt. Veeder and Howell Mountain, but cooler than Oakville and St. Helena, creating wines that are both concentrated and elegant.

The diverse terrain features a wide range of valley, hillside and mounting sites. Each of the 87 blocks, on this 1680 acre property, is based on the interplay between soil, pitch, sun exposure and air flow.

In addition to growing exceptional wines from this idyllic setting, we raise natural, grass-fed, hormone free Dorper lamb on the vineyard estate. Our sheep are utilized both as maintenance and balance, in our stewardship of this land.

Somerston Vineyards is the home of Highflyer Wines, Priest Ranch, and Somerston Wines.
